ACYSO Candidates : 2008

Frank Olvera: President

Frank Olvera has served as ACYSO's President since being elected in May 2002. He has been involved with ACYSO since 1995 and has served as a volunteer coach, manager, age group commissioner, Discipline and Protest Chairperson, Competitive Soccer Chairperson, as well as in his current position as President. He also currently serves on the South Texas Youth Soccer Association Risk Management Committee and represents ACYSO at our Alamo Area Youth Soccer Association board meetings.

During his tenure as President, Frank has led the growth of our organization through a wide array of financial, facility and program improvements.

A bank loan for the Alamo Sportsplex was refinanced, with savings to ACYSO of $30,000; an additional 9+ acres of land adjacent to the Talley Road fields were purchased for development (this note has been paid off;); 3 additional tournaments have been added with great success providing ACYSO approximately $32,000 in additional annual net revenue. This includes the Fall Shootout, which has become one of the largest youth soccer tournaments hosted by any organization within all of Alamo Area Youth Soccer. This year, ACYSO has obtained permission to host an additional two tournaments, including a U9/U10 tournament this spring and a Pre-Labor Day tournament, which will be hosted in conjunction with our competitive clubs.

Frank renegotiated for water rights, and based upon his calm and professional approach; both leasing entities have provided ACYSO with lease agreements lower than the going rates.

Frank removed all bleachers at ASP and Talley Rd., saving ACYSO insurance premium payments for the high risk of injury assessed for bleachers at youth sports fields. (The bleachers were sold to another organization, so this produced some revenue for ACYSO as well.)

Our formerly unused concession building was refurbished to include a full kitchen area and working restrooms and the installation of an irrigation system at Alamo Sportsplex was completed, led by James Malik and his family, Frank, and several other volunteers, netting a savings to ACYSO of approximately $60,000. A pavilion was also completed with the help of the Malik family, Frank and other volunteers, to provide a much-needed shaded area to our complex at Alamo Sportsplex.

Over the years, Frank has fostered working relationships with the competitive clubs within ACYSO to better provide leadership, skill and, ideas. Frank was able to obtain the cooperation of various competitive clubs within ACYSO to begin a free D-IV Friday night training program to ensure all players at our younger age groups have an opportunity to develop at the appropriate level. The AC Storm is currently providing trainers for this valuable program under ACYSO.

Most recently, Frank has been involved in planning meetings to develop approximately 46 soccer fields in San Antonio. Fourteen of these fields would be developed at the Culebra Creek Project, which is adjacent to Alamo Sportsplex. These fields would be managed by ACYSO and would provide the opportunity to continue our growth in both numbers and programs offered to our local youth.

Frank has a genuine love of the game and an interest in providing the best soccer experience possible to all of our youth, to include providing quality coaching, officiating and playing fields, and developing the best recreational and competitive programs possible. He spends many hours answering parent and coach questions and requests, and is at the fields on the weekends to assist with field and game issues. He also assists at all of our registration dates, as well as all ACYSO tournaments. He has dedicated the majority of his free time toward ACYSO business.
